Live Action’s, gender equal program, proposes a refined, eclectic, and balanced artistic content that articulates an open aesthetic outlook and approach that we believe contributes to the festival’s depth and sophistication. Our programming focus on performance art that emanate from the visual arts tradition with all its theoretical implication since the notions of action as an artistic concept was developed by Paul Valéry as poïesis and Harold Rosenberg as action painting, were practiced by the Gutai artists in the 1950s and Joseph Beuys in the 1960s. Live Action belong to that particular visual conceptual tradition, showcasing the unconventional.
Our programming and production model however is grounded in a simple but powerful principle: cultural democracy, with the objective to make contemporary art accessible to all citizens, regardless of social background, gender, economic status, or ethnicity. This is one reason why, from the very beginning, we have insisted on presenting performance art directly in the streets of Gothenburg’s city center — where the people are — through a dedicated program called Common Ground, held on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday afternoons. Likewise, our evening programs at 3:e Våningen remain free of charge, offering an art-interested public the opportunity to experience four performances per evening.
