Paula Fitzsimons, Ireland

Paula Fitzsimons is an Irish artist using performance art, photography, spoken word, sound, and drawing to make time-based works of art. Her works evolve in direct response to aspects of cultural heritage, with particular emphasis on women’s experiences in culture. She is interested in bringing the audience close on a shared journey of ‘making’ to realise works that are transient and experiential. Over the past twenty years Fitzsimons has presented live and multimedia works in Ireland, Britain, France, Poland, Sweden, Austria, Italy and shown moving image installations of works in Japan, South Korea and at Art Dubai.

In 2016 Fitzsimons graduated from the Royal College of Art in London with MA (Performance Pathway) and was awarded a PhD at the RCA in June 2023, for her project titled 'Up Against the Wall', using the architectural structure of Outdoor Concrete Handball Alleys as a location to make a series of performance works live in the Irish landscape.

Most recently in 2026 Fitzsimons made a performance at ‘The Heinrich Böll Memorial Weekend’, on Achill Island, Ireland. She made a series of live performances in Vienna for ‘Parole of an Apparition’ performance art festival. Fitzsimons’ video titled ‘Holding Water’, a live to camera performance recorded at Malin Head, was shown at the Saatchi Gallery, London as part of ArtEvol2025.

In 2025, Fitzsimons was selected to participate in the groundbreaking public hologram exhibition Immersion X in Gothenburg, Sweden. Her volumetric performance is permanently situated at the entrance to the Röhsska Museum of Design, where it forms part of an innovative city-wide augmented reality exhibition that brings contemporary performance art into the urban public realm through cutting-edge holographic technology.
