Enrique JEŽIK

 

Enrique JEŽIK, Argentina/Mexico

Born in Cordoba, Argentina, 1961.

Lives and works in Mexico City since 1990. His work focuses on analysis and reflection on power, labor, urban violence and war, the use of weapons and surveillance, and also investigates the aestheticization of violence and the manipulation of information by the mass media, utilizing strategies that refer to an exacerbation of traditional sculptural processes. In his practice he utilizes a wide range of media spanning from drawing, sculpture, performance and video to aggressive architectural interventions, media archeology and textual references.

Some recent solo exhibitions: “Collapse”, Galeria Metropolitana, Santiago, Chile (2019); "Unleash the Catastrophe", Proa21, Buenos Aires; "In Self defense", OSDE Foundation, Buenos Aires (2018); "Possible Warning", Ex Teresa Arte Actual, Mexico City (2017); "Before Several Clues", Jesus Gallardo Gallery, Leon, Mexico (2016); "Reason and Force", Vermelho Gallery, Sao Paulo, Brazil (2015); "Destroy, Obstruct, Conceal", University Contemporary Art Museum - MUAC, Mexico City (2011).

His work has been shown in group exhibitions at diverse institutions such us Museo Carrillo Gil, Museo de Arte Moderno (Mexico City); Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes (Buenos Aires); Haus der Kulturen der Welt (Berlin); Reina Sofia Museum (Madrid), Musee des Beaux Arts (Montreal), Art Sonje Center (Seoul), Ludvig Museum (Budapest), among others, as well as at Biennales of Mercosur (2003), Sao Paulo (2010), Ljubljana (2011), Shanghai (2018), BienalSur (2019).
